Fridge: moving volume and packing

Fridge: 1.2 m³, 0.4 LDM. Defrost and dry it, transport upright and wait before switching it on.

A large fridge needs about 1.2 m³ and 0.4 load metres, making it one of the bulkier kitchen items. Transport it upright and let it stand for a few hours before switching on, so the compressor oil settles back. Defrost and dry it first, otherwise water runs into the insulation during the move.

How to pack

  1. Defrost, clean and dry the interior at least a day before loading.
  2. Take out shelves and drawers, pack them separately and tape the doors shut.
  3. Secure it upright with straps and keep it last in, first out at the destination.

For storage

Store upright with the doors ajar in a dry room; never lay a fridge on its back for long periods.
